Description

We strive to raise the animals on our farm in as near to the fashion they were evolved to live, and let them eat in the ways they evolved to eat.

We view our farm as a special piece of ground to be worked with,  as opposed to worked. In other words, we don’t try to bend the land to our will, rather we work with what it provides, and nurture the life both above and below the ground. As grass farmers, we recognize the importance of healthy soils to our endeavors, our pastures’ productivity, our animals’ health, and in the biggest of pictures.

We strive at every turn for not only sustainability, but restoration of marginalized or less productive grounds. We do this by taking advantage of the natural tendencies of the animals we raise (e.g.: our practice of using pigs to clear the understory in our woodlot so that grass will grow there, or managing multiflora rose in our fencerows with a few goats, rather than a weedwhacker!). We recognize that there are no absolutes in farming. We believe that any successful endeavor (farming or otherwise) must embrace learning, adaptation, and change as constants. We feel a responsibility to provide for our animals in the ways we know are best for them, and not try to “push” them to grow or reproduce faster. We also feel a responsibility to ourselves and our customers to raise the healthiest, tastiest meats possible, all while continually improving the ground we farm.
